Acknowledgement

The idea of conducting this Seminar on Convergence, Pidginization and Creolization was originally suggested by Dr. D.P. Pattanayak former Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore and Dr. M.V. Sreedhar, former Deputy Director (Socio Linguistics Units), Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore .  I acknowledge this and convey my thanks to both of them for their suggestions and their co-operation extended during the seminar period.

            I express my gratitude to all the participants of the Seminar without whose active co-operation and participation the Seminar would have not become successful.  I am very thankful to some of the contributors who were kind enough to send their revised papers on time.

            I am grateful to Dr. E. Annamalai, the then Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore for giving his approval for publishing this volume.  I am grateful to Dr. O.N. Koul,  the Director in charge, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore , for his help and encouragement and suggesting the suitable title for this volume.

            I convey my sincere thanks to Professor Udaya Narayana Singh, the present Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages for his keen interest shown in the publication of this work.

            I am thankful to Mrs. T. Radhamony who has typed this manuscript through the Computer.
